Youth College Café Story

The Youth College Café was established in 2024 right here at Blacktown Youth College. With the support of our staff and Head of School, a section of our Food Technology room was transformed into a dedicated barista station, creating a unique space for students to learn, create, and connect.

The café was designed with student involvement at its core. Students were invited to participate in a competition to create both the café’s name and logo. A variety of creative entries were submitted, and staff selected their favourite designs before the top three concepts were presented to the School Board for a final decision.

Once the winning design was chosen, our current Deputy Principal and Visual Arts Teacher, Dale, refined the selected logo by hand. The artwork was then professionally digitised by a graphic designer, bringing the Youth College Café brand to life.

Today, our students take great pride in their café. Not only were they involved in creating its identity, but they also continue to gain valuable hands-on experience through its operation. The café provides opportunities to develop practical hospitality skills, customer service experience, teamwork, and workplace readiness in a supportive learning environment.
